Metro Rail, one of the mega projects of the government at Dhaka, is no longer a dream but a visible reality. It is one of the important project that was started in 2016 and is expected to be finished in 2023. The country's first-ever metro rail train was inaugurated on 28 December, 2022, marking a major contribution to the transport sector of Bangladesh. The project would likely cost $2.8 billion with backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).The 20.1 km long metro rail line from Uttara to Motijheel is known as MRT 6. It can carry 60 thousand passengers per hour and 5 lakh passengers per day. Each train has 6 coaches and can carry a maximum of 2,308 passengers. There are plans to build six metro rail lines in Dhaka by mid-2030. The metro rail is going to play an effective role in decreasing traffic. It will not only ease traffic congestion but also greatly enhance the beauty of Dhaka city. Besides, as it is fully electric, it will play an important role in reducing the environmental pollution. It is well equipped with all kinds of modern facilities so that the passengers can complete their journey with ease and comfort. Every metro train station has amenities, such as an operation room, ticket booth, lounge, fire suppression system, escalator, lift, and more. A large amount of employment has already taken place for metro rail operation and maintenance. These jobs and opportunities will stimulate the economy and eventually benefit the whole nation. Moreover, the metro rail will encourage the expansion of various businesses close to the stations due to an easy access to the transportation system.
